I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As a company the products they offer are amazing. The Home Office support is second to none. Northwestern Mutual is fantastic. If you want to be able to offer the absolute best financial planning products out there, then NM is the place to work. If you can't make it here, you will be hard pressed to work anywhere else, because you will always know there is something better.

    Cons

    100% Commission
    Great is never enough
You get stuck with who recruits you into the "Business"
Do this if the only thing you care about is money
Work-Life Balance does not exist for first 3 yrs.

    Advice to Management

If your going to require your Reps to get their Series 6/63 in the first year, then have a support system in place to help younger reps place business.

Very few veteran reps what to Joint Work for $50/mo Roth IRA. So now you have a young rep who is not following the compliance rules as well as they should.

I worked at Northwestern Mutual as an intern

    Pros

Great team environment. Room for personal growth. Make your own schedule but the company keeps you accountable by pushing you to meet certain activity goals. Good compensation for hard work. Management motivates you to acquire additional licenses and certifications.

    Cons

To initially succeed you need to put in at least 60 hours a week, preferably more, unless you have a strong natural market. No base salary. Certain minimums must be met before Northwestern will sponsor you to attain basic investments licenses. This makes it hard to do what they want you to do with clients, be a financial planner, without working with other members within the office.
