I worked at Northwestern University full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    -Benefits: health and educational assistance
    -Time off
    -Flexible schedule work
    -Academic experience
-Being surrounded by all that research

    Cons

No room for a career growth, really hard to get promoted into a better position. Hard to move from assistant nonexempt position into administrative exempt position, unless you know someone who can strongly recommend you. You may apply for a higher positions and send many resumes without even receiving one phone call for an interview- even though you may be well qualified. Management in some departments lacks any leadership skills. Some incompetent people in higher/managerial positions.

    Advice to Management

Brush up on those leadership skills and do not micromanage.
