I have been working at OHSU full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Lots of great people to work with. Being healthy and balancing home and work is encouraged. CWE has a lot of great employee development courses. Beautiful facilities and lots of job opportunities.

Cons

In some ways the organization is just too big. Big names draw in big donations but little thought given to support structure to grow and support the resources. A lot of duplicated efforts and silos. The tuition discount is disappointing. Parking is a nightmare - at least a 5 year wait to park on the hill, make sure you live near public transportation lines and budget that time into your commute.

Advice to Management

Simplify the website! it's difficult to figure out who does what, and when.

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at OHSU full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great PIs, access to government funded research materials, primate center, great networking opportunities, knowledge that you are contributing to actual medicine (not big pharma)

    Cons

Not as much pay as capitalist research, employment more dependent on grants/funds, sometimes certain PIs could be very grating; otherwise, it's really difficult to say anything negative. Favorite job I've had.

    Advice to Management

None--they are amazing. Maybe more opportunities for smaller projects.

I worked at OHSU full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits, wages, union representation; learning environment; opportunity to interface with great variety of people.

    Cons

Old school system. Need to learn and play by the rules. Huge organization. Must routinely check that your paycheck is accurate (often hours missing).
