Pros

OMNOVA Solutions would bring in some good employees who were competent to work with. Their employee training program is average. Management watch dollars like a hawk.

Cons

The company has a "Big Brother" mentality. They believe that whatever any V.P or managing director says must be the gospel. There is no challenging of edicts coming from top management down. To do so means unemployment for the one who does.

Company is in a state of flux all the time with staffing levels. They sometimes hire when they simply need to use who they have, then are forced to do draconian cuts.

Advice to Management

Too many chiefs and not enough workers, especially in the IT and maufacturing sectors. Bring in new blood. Reliance on old employees will stalemate company. Share more bonuses with employees.

    Pros

    People at the plant are very friendly and good to work with.

    Cons

    The plant shut down production for overall company strategic reasons. Now there are only a few workers at this location. The others had to find new jobs.

    I worked at OMNOVA Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Very nice people work there, but then next thing you know they are gone.

    HQ is nice with nice collaboration spaces. If only people were there long enough to collaborate with.

    Cons

    Huge, huge turnover rate in corporate HQ speaks for itself. Better than half of the people that moved to the new HQ are gone.

    They talk a good game, but don't deliver.

    You don't have the IT tools you need to get the job done. If you are good, you make your own tools, but really why would you want to when there are companies out there that will supply you with what you need.

    Few managers tell you you did a good job. I actually had one tell me that they didn't need my input they were a director. Well, then you don't get my help either.

    They keep increasing management layers and not increasing the number of employees that actually have to do the work. Lots of new VPs, Global Directors, Directors positions; same number of people to do the grunt work.

    Advice to Management

    Might want to find out why people (lots of them) leave. Just google "why people leave companies" and then do some serious self-evaluation.

    You need a 360 degree management review program. A number of your managers are really bad and there is no way to give feedback, so your best people leave.

    There is no vision and mission, develop one and communicate it. That way your employees will know where they are going.
