Pros

If you are looking for a job where you can crawl out of bed at 8am, turn your laptop on, say good morning and then fall asleep until noon, this is your place to work! Employees are not held accountable at all, feel free to play video games, go shopping, travel, cook, etc, during the work day. When year end bonuses come along, you can rest easy knowing that although you did not work all year, you will still get a similar raise/bonus (+/- $1000) as the best performing employees. Don't worry about reaching the goals & objectives you are assigned, they are all team-driven meaning your colleagues will do all the work and you will be rewarded for it!

Cons

If you are looking for a job where you want to excel and grow your career, stay far away from Ocean Network Express. Management treats employees like children, picking favorites and then choosing one or multiple to pick on. Favorites are allowed to do whatever they want, the pros section pretty much sums up what your life as a "favorite" will be. For the unlucky ones, be prepared to have every little mistake nitpicked, every decision questioned, every single aspect of your work critiqued and micromanaged like you are a clueless ape. Be prepared to do all the work for your team, the teams bonuses rest on your shoulders as they are playing video games. When you do all the work and save the company millions of dollars, you will be rewarded with a 3% salary increase. Far less than the inflation rate which the shipping industry is a big cause for. Just think of it, when you shop for food, gas or go holiday shopping this year, the goods you will be purchasing are at a premium because the company you work for is charging 1000% what they charged last year, yet will only offer you 3% more pay. During the job interview they will talk about "Lean & Agile" but there is endless bureaucratic red tape, the entire organization from US to Europe to Japan to Singapore has to sign off on every decision.

Cons

Black professionals considering the Richmond, VA office should proceed with caution. There is little to no Black representation in leadership outside of lower-level management, despite qualified internal talent. This directly impacts visibility, advancement, and access to opportunity. HR is not a safe or neutral resource; mentorship and development programs exist largely in name only and are influenced by favoritism rather than merit, including inconsistent access to tools and resources required to perform effectively. Work is frequently minimized publicly while being relied upon privately, creating an environment where competence is exploited rather than developed, and communication is reactive and driven by optics rather than strategy. For Black employees in particular, this creates a high-risk, unsafe environment where merit does not reliably translate to support or growth. The lack of Black representation in leadership is not an oversight, it is a systemic issue. Decisions around hiring, pay, mentorship, and access to tools consistently favor proximity and likability over merit, resulting in underqualified leadership overseeing highly qualified teams. HR’s failure to act as a neutral safeguard reinforces inequity rather than correcting it, leaving Black employees unsupported when concerns arise. Until accountability, equitable resourcing, and merit-based development are treated as priorities rather than optics, this office will continue to lose strong talent and damage its credibility internally and externally. All in all, I would not recommend the Richmond, VA office for Black candidates and would instead suggest the NJ, GA, IL, or CA offices.
