I worked at Office Depot full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Good Company Culture, Great Co-Workers, Nice Facility, Good Work-Life Balance

Cons

Disorganization, No Clear or Consistent Messaging as to Expectations and Goals, Too Many Out of Date Programs and Processes, Too Many Incapable Managers, Pay and Bonuses Misrepresented, Micromanaged Call Center Environment

Advice to Management

Invest in your people and promote from within. Stop the smoke and mirror games regarding the upcoming merger. Be honest about pay, expectations, and potential for advancement, or lack thereof. And get your sales force their annual sales quota before the third quarter!

I have been working at Office Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is a lot to learn that can be taken to another higher paying job.

    Cons

Pay sucks.......They pay minimum wage and after almost two years of employment I still haven't had a raise.
Poor leadership........In the year 2012 at the location in Bowie, Maryland I encountered two managers who acted like teenage kids and who also ran the store like a High School Substitute teacher sometimes I felt as is I were the only adult around.

    Advice to Management

Pay your lower level more than Minimum wage. We are the ones on the front lines who have to deal with impatient customers, we are the ones who make things happen for the company it would be nice if our paychecks could reflect our daily accomplishments

    Pros

    - Home office flexibility in sales

    Cons

    - Too many internal systems that lack integration
    - Too many "chiefs" and "directors" everywhere
    - Poster child for "good 'ole boy network"
    - Do as I say, not as I do mentality
    - Management constantly out of synch

    Advice to Management

    - Eliminate barriers for salespeople
    - Create a sales centric versus operations centric mentality
    - Lead by example versus by "corporate speak"
    - Move forward with merger with OfficeMax
