I have been working at OfficeMax part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Flexible with your schedule and time off
Small staff, so you get close to your co-workers
Not very difficult

Cons

Too many tasks assigned to one associate
You are expected to put out merchandise from the truck almost instantly
Mangers don't see that for most people, this is not a lifelong career path
Understaffed, pay is almost laughable

Advice to Management

Start paying your employees better, and stop making them do so many tasks. As a computer sales consultant, let me focus on my job rather than pushing so hard to get stuff out on the floor. And when you do put stuff out, they yell at you the next week because numbers are bad. The pay for what I do is absolutely terrible. I complain to my mangers and they don't care either. I enjoy working for the company most of the time, but expecting us to do 7 tasks at once, which any other place would require 7 different employees, is absolutely terrible.

I worked at OfficeMax full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great teams family like atmosphere. Can be fun at times with the right team. Decent hours

    Cons

Things change at OfficeMax everyday it seems. They give nothing a chance, in my 4 years there I have 4 different DM"S. Each of them came in with there own ideas and we have to adapt and change on the fly. In addition to the DM's the company is changing direction all the time. They want a "sales team", but don't what to pay for it, train it or let the do it. EVERYONE must do everything in the building its CRAZY. As a manager you cant get anything done right!!!!!!! There are only 4 people working at any given time and this seems to be chain wide there is not HELP at all.....

    Advice to Management

Give the stores enough payroll for just 8 more hours a day. Stop micro managing and make up your mind what you want to do, and DO it....

I worked at OfficeMax part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly coworkers. They were willing to work around my schedule when needed. They had a nice breakroom. The bathrooms were generally always clean for both staff and customers.

    Cons

Cheap pay. Sometimes they were nonflexible with company policy when it did not make sense.

    Advice to Management

Stop creating the us vs them mentality with the district level managers and higher.
