I have been working at OfficeMax full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Friendly staff, Interesting customers, Flexible hours, Competent management, and moderate expectations. There is a lot of room for advancement if you stay busy and do your job. Self motivation is the key to success at OfficeMax.

Cons

Can sometimes be repetitious. If you can't talk to people or know what rapport means then you shouldn't work here. You will have weeks where sales are phenomenal and others where you're barely braking even. Keep your head up and focus on your goals.

Advice to Management

Innovation is the lifeblood of any company but please pace yourself. Can sometimes be overwhelming.

I have been working at OfficeMax part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Only reason I didn't give 1 star is because the store I work for is great. Oh, and we get free shirts.

    Cons

Awful pay, no chance to climb the ladder, always changing goals, expectations, standards, selling techniques, without allowing time to see if something works. Computer systems are 8 years outdated then customers get mad because they get tired of waiting, complain to Corporate and then Corporate gets mad at us. Every week payroll declines, but somehow they want us to keep the workload and get it all done on time, with less coverage. Did I mention the pay was poor?

    Advice to Management

Listen to the stores when asked for help.

I worked at OfficeMax part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

My co-workers were great to work with and were always willing to help out the customers when needed. It was a fun environment though sometimes it could get hectic in the Impress Dept. They provided whatever hours that were requested by the employees and very flexible with scheduling.

    Cons

    - Pay scale was low
    - Tough customers to please at times
    - Management only cared about sales and not customer service
    - Push ridiculous methods of improving sales numbers
    - VERY high turn-over rate

    Advice to Management

On the right track.. increase the pay scale a bit to be more competitive with the job market in order to keep your employees interested!
