I have been working at OfficeMax full-time

Pros

Super flexible, laid back, gym downstairs, great informational seminars.

Cons

Segmentation among departments, boring at times, seems you have to go horizontal to go vertical. Aramark cafe overpriced

I have been working at OfficeMax full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people and culture are great. I love the laid back environment and the people are generally really good to work with. At headquarters, not unusual to see the CEO and EVPs walking around and being, well, normal people. I think the company has a lot to offer its employees.

    Cons

Some disconnect between some departments makes it difficult to get the information we need.

    Advice to Management

trust that your employees are trying their hardest in a fragmented market and a bad economy.

  2. "Zero conception of training its employees to do the job they are hired for."

I worked at OfficeMax part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Overnight shifts are somewhat less frustrating.

    Cons

Pay is a joke; no benefits; NO training, yet there are strong expectations to perform. How can one be expected to sell merchandise when no training has been given to give even the faintest inkling of how electronic products work or how they compare to others in similar market? HR occasionally tries to cheat you out of vacation and PTO hours, then takes forever to correct their "errors".

    Advice to Management

Increase pay; offer REAL (or even some!) training for selling electronic merchandise; offer some incentive for the good employess to continue working hard instead of treating all workers like faceless drones; focus less on ruthlessly pushing warranty sales and more on the actual products.
