I have been working at OfficeMax part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Impress department is a wonderful place for future Graphic Designers to flourish. If you're interested in design, this job is for you. Never a dull moment and an opportunity to become familiar with the printing process.

    Cons

Very, VERY short-staffed. Most employees last roughly 3 months before leaving.
Management doesn't seem to take much interest in this department.
There is only one person working in the department at a time and only one computer to serve customers on. Lines of ten people are very common and stressful.
Machines and printers frequently break and management will not fix.
Management also does not order materials for our department.
Managers will frequently come and boot you off your own computer (yes, even if you are WITH a customer) to check their sales or print Ads for the rest of the store.
    Very unprofessional atmosphere overall.

    Advice to Management

The print department is where most customer/employee interaction occurs and is where a large chunk of brand loyalty is born. I do not understand why such little assistance is given to it or why everyone in the stores (I'm looking at YOU, cashiers) is not trained to be familiar in the department. There should ALWAYS be at least TWO people in this department at a time. It's ludicrous to expect one person can handle so many people.

I have been working at OfficeMax part-time

    Pros

Flexible schedule, supportive management. Ive worked in a couple different locations and always had a great group of coworkers.

    Cons

micromanagement from corporate, little support from corporate. expected to compete with other electronics retailers but Omax only carries dated technology. Sales strategy can be over bearing on customers. Some stores have a very low inventory making it difficult to satisfy customers when only one item in the ad is received.
