I worked at Old Navy full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Excellent and thorough policy and procedure training, as well as management training from a handbook perspective. Management training for all positions teaches one how to fully run their own store practically, leaving you with a tremendous set of skills to operate and run a successful store, in almost any retail position.

Cons

Compensation and recognition are not distributed in a fair manner. Higher management and those on corporate levels have a higher turnover rate, making it almost impossible to be evaluated for performance in a consistent manner by the same staff. This makes for reviews and compensation for quarterly bonuses mediocre if non-existent.

Advice to Management

Provide higher compensation for those that have stayed loyal and worked within your company rather than giving them the bare minimum and offering higher mid. to maximum to those being hired on. You will find that your manager turnover rate might not be as high if you showed some recognition and praise to those that have given more of their time and effort as opposed to those that fly by night and are handed higher wages with no work to show for it.

I worked at Old Navy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary was good for the position, the leadership structure in high volume stores was great and the Gap Inc discount was awesome!

    Cons

DM was awful, played favorites. Corporate kept changings its POV. Changes and information were last minute at store level ie: Pages on markdowns hit store at 8pm must be done by opening next morning, payroll hours cut on Thur so your busiest days were super light in coverage, incorrect signage for promos.

I worked at Old Navy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

the discounts at old navy, gap, and banana republic were great. My coworkers were fun and the management did a god job of making the stressful holiday season not as bad.

    Cons

Always being pressured to meet a quota of getting people to get an old navy card. The management had unfair expectations of how long it would take to organize each section of the store and constantly be talking for the headset to check in on you instead of just walking around seeing how you were doing. Was very hard to request time off in advance, only 3 employees could sign up for a day off on a calendar and we had over 20 part time employees.
