Tough but rewarding serving job
Jan 29, 2023 - Server in San Antonio, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great pay. I average $20 an hour in just tips that I take home. Also great exercise. You often are kept pretty busy and it makes time go by faster. I lost 20 pounds in just a few months of working here. I’m a lot more fit and stronger than I was before. The job is also really flexible.
Cons
It’s a lot of work. Tables have access to unlimited stuff and many will take advantage of it and run their server back and forth. Most of the time you make the salad. You prepare the plates, soup, bread basket and just about everything other than their entree. Most of the time, the tables that run you the most will tip the least because unlimited soup and salad is the cheapest entree. You typically are allowed only 3 tables at a time and when you start out, 3 tables is a lot and can be hard to keep up with until you really get the hang of it. This job will require you to walk a lot and carry a ton of heavy plates to and from the kitchen. I typically take 13,000-17,000 steps per shift.
