No opinion of CEO

Pros

- Work with industry veterans
- Connections to some of the biggest companies in the world
- Wonderful travel opportunities

Cons

- Not much room for career development
- Software is extremely dated and probably not useful if you want to grow as a programmer

Advice to Management

It's not easy to move forward with enterprise class software, but most of what's being used is just too old for this company to survive much longer. Software rewrites are a bad idea, but something must be done to keep this company up with the current times.

    Pros

Open Text is a fast growing company with many opportunities for advancement. They do focus on personal development and care about their people at an executive level. It is a family-friendly organization.

    Cons

The general chaos caused by all of the mergers and acquisitions made it difficult to know the overall direction of the company. This would be less of a factor if you joined the main Canadian division. Working for one of the many acquired companies introduces confusion.

    Advice to Management

They are acquiring too many companies and it is leading to confusion on their overall mission. They are also investing in software that is providing less of a differentiating business proposition and is becoming commoditized.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

    Great products and industry references.

    Cons

New CEO single-handedly took the company to its knees. Commanded little or no respect. Cleared almost all senior management positions to fill with his own cronies.

    Advice to Management

    They have since been acquired.
