Pros

Most people are very helpful, great to talk to and fun to work with. There's potential for advancement depending on what you do. You are always learning new things on the job and every day is interesting.

Cons

Hours can be long and employees are overworked, but that is unsurprising given the field. It's tough to get to know everyone by name.

I worked at Ophthalmic Consultants Of Boston full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Non management staff are great but overworked.

    Cons

    Terrible upper management.
Employees are extremely underpaid and overworked.
    No training.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees accordingly-other eye health providers pay technicians much more. Train your staff. Hire the best people and not the cheapest.

    Pros

Great Dr.'s and staff is great to work with, though there are a lot of similar complaints within staff. Great benefits-health, dental, discounts. Can learn a lot from the right physicians/more experiences coworkers (but good luck getting the time to learn anything new). Pay is market standard for this area. though a good amount of travel may be required, they now compensate fairly (better than most) for travel. Management is understanding when life problems come up (but good luck getting out of clinic for appointments).

    Cons

Way over scheduled and limited staff so you're killing yourself all day. People with job longevity are treated much differently than new staff and basically determine their own schedules while new staff is scheduled to cover everywhere and for any specialty with limited warning or training for that specific dr. They tell you you're based out of a certain office, but that only means they do your pay from there. Travel can be excessive and ridiculous depending on which Dr. you're assigned to that day and which locations need help. No real education or learning going on aside from quick, on-the-fly things. They will tell you that you can do a multitude of things, but most desired positions are taken leaving new employees to work up patients in circles day-in and day-out. Brought roblems to direct supervisor and was literally told "well, I'm not going to do anything about it and it's probably just going to get worse." Management could care less and when changes are promised once you've proven yourself, they are very very slow to come to fruition. Clinic manager was basically forced into her position and though she is a great person, management probably isn't her forte.

    Advice to Management

Get in touch with employees. Communicate about the good and bad and address relevant issues in a timely manner. For christ sake, staff and schedule appropriately so staff doesn't burn out. Give all staff members an equal opportunity to do various things and invest in training them to do so. Also, staff each location appropriately (don't say it's impossible, because it's not-just costs a little more).
