Pros

The people you work with are great, everyone is really smart and willing to share their knowledge. The company focuses on implementing solutions using open source technologies which is something a big fan of. Senior management is always available if you have questions or suggestions. I really like the flat organizational structure. Also working with all the latest technologies is a big plus for me.

Cons

The benefits are alright but they could be better. It's a consulting company so there are times when there could be a ton of travel. This could be a positive or a negative for a lot of people. I like the travel, but if you have a family, pets etc. it could be a bad fit.

Advice to Management

Try to maintain the small company culture as size of it continues to grow.

    Pros

Working on Next Generation Internet projects based on Open Source technology. The company culture is open, friendly and the hierarchy fairly flat. Projects are usually intensive and reasonably short so your experience grows quickly. There are opportunities to travel. Optaros has offices in several countries and employees are frequently exchanged between offices - or work remotely - on projects.
The methodology that Optaros uses for projects is a definite advantage. It gives you structure and allows you to get going quickly on new projects and with new teams.

    Cons

It is a young company which is growing quickly. (At the time of this review, June 2008.) That means a certain amount of uncertainty about the company structure and individual opportunities.
Getting staffed on the projects that would be good for you in the role(s) you want is sometimes challenging. You can get stuck on boring projects and/or have to deal with bad clients. (As opposed to a company where you don't deal with clients directly.)
The company culture and business practices are not yet the same in each office even though that is a goal of the company.

    Advice to Management

Guard the quality of the culture.

    I worked at Optaros full-time

    Pros

Smart people. Lots of freedom when it comes to problem solving. Fast paced, pushes you to learn quickly.

    Cons

Being acquired by a massive ad agency as their ecommerce division. That has changed the company completely. The work is less interesting in terms of technology. Being swept into a big corporation changed the essence of the company. Key top leadership leaving was also a big blow.

    Advice to Management

Replenish the top leadership with smart people.
