I worked at Oracle full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Server Tech division which includes database, enterprise manager are good to work in. People are smart and friendly. Good telecommuting culture and flexible work hour. But you have to work hard in order to advance. That's true everywhere

Cons

When you hit a plateau in learning, it is up to yourself to look around for opportunities. Keep looking. No one will do it for you.

Advice to Management

Don't add more engineering processes to treat everyone like a dumb a**. It just lowers productivity for everybody.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible work schedule/telecommuting. Some training opportunities.

    Cons

Zero career advancement. Zero mentoring. Pay increases have been hit and miss over the years, mostly miss; stretches of several years without any increase. Poor communication, unclear/conflicting edicts from management. Processes and policies not thought-through.

No respect for employees, at least here in the US. New hiring is mostly in India and other low-cost labor centers. There's a very clear message they want to replace all the experienced American positions with cheaper replacements. This of course breeds an environment where no one has any loyalty.

    Advice to Management

No advice. They wouldn't listen anyway.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits and compensation
    Talented technical resources
    Brand Name

    Cons

Management only cares about one thing - revenue
    Sales driven culture
    Slow growth
    Too much internal politics
Product direction challenges - especially in the FMW stack

    Advice to Management

Immediate leadership must focus less on making numbers and more about their people. If you have people that are happy, your numbers will grow organically vs. through acquisition. Churn in team is not because of the company, but because of bad management. Get rid of the dead wood and profit margins will increase.
