I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Good benefits and salary. Oracle is a stable company, and offers a great environment for people who can mold themselves to work within the fairly rigid confines of how they do business.

Cons

Salary adjustments and promotions are extremely rare for most people. Performance appraisals use forced rankings. Management says they want innovation, but rarely provide the means for anyone to pursue it.

Advice to Management

Consider adopting 21st Century ideas about performance appraisal and talent management.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Consistency if you do your job and are willing to be paid the same, job is pretty secure, decent benefits.

    Cons

Only way to increase income is to work longer hours for OT pay, as no real raises in years

    Advice to Management

Stop thinking only about your bonuses, lower ranks have to do the actual work for your bonus, yet they get nothing out of it. Give them some incentive too.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most everyone is friendly and approachable so the culture and work environment is very pleasant. There are a lot of opportunities to grow your career. You can start at the bottom of the totem pole one year and be a manager next year and be working in the field in year 3. Being such a large company, there are always positions opening up, attrition, etc. You can literally have your pickings of what sector, LOB, product, territory, and sometimes manager you want to work for. Most of the managers are macro-managers so you can literally leave for lunch at 11:30 and come back at 1:30 and it looks like you took an early lunch or a late lunch. Managers are not up your butt looking for where you are and give you space. However if you don't hit your metrics and closed revenue they will be more strict. Also, great name dropper to have on your linkedin/resume.

    Cons

That being said, Oracle being an enterprise company, there are some cons... Get everything in writing i.e. Pay structure, bonuses, salary bumps, promotions. Why? Because you can be verbally promised something one day, and the story changes the next. Cover yourself and get everything documented. Also, I've always had some kind of issue when I received my bonus or commission. Late, incorrect amount, off-cycle payments, etc.

    Advice to Management

I understand forecasting is an art and is a necessity for upper management, but to have reps coerced into forecasting an unrealistic number with a terrible territory and then hold them responsible to achieve is unreasonable. My advice is to let your reps be adults and forecast something honest and attainable and more so realistic.
