I worked at Otis College of Art and Design full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Creative and talented faculty who are a lot of fun, some exceptionally brilliant students . Amazing office staff ! Great location, SUMMERS OFF !!!!!

Many sweet , hardworking, dedicated students .

Cons

Workload, expectations , responsibilities seem to increase every year for both teachers and students. Bar is set impossibly high in regard to student design and illustration. Only gifted few can achieve this level of work without an inordinate amount of teacher " corrections" (a euphemism for teachers basically redoing student work to meet standards of excellence that are impossible for most ) . Leadership gives mixed messages often .

Advice to Management

Focus on students achieving their own personal best . Do not expect student work to look as good, actually much better , than majority of industry designers. Recognize and nurture different approaches to design problem solving. Foster individuality rather than homogeneity !

    Pros

Enjoy working with the students and the faculty.

    Cons

A bit tough to catch a student up with curriculum when they have missed a 3 hour class.

I worked at Otis College of Art and Design as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Creative environment, you are always thinking about creating art.

    Cons

being an adjunct professor, like many schools, does not pay a living wage. Also, students have run of the land, and if you fail a student that has parents that have a lot of money, be prepared to back down and let them have their way.

    Advice to Management

While the children are our future, not all deserve to graduate. Stop letting them get away with murder. As an adjunct professor, we don't get paid enough to deal with those egos, on top of actually trying to teach them something.
