I worked at Outpost Natural Foods part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

1. Competent and personable management
2. Employee benefits - can be part of the UCFW Union, health insurance for employees working as least 20 hours/week, retirement fund available as well
3. Upper management is aware of and involves employees in the business- quarterly meetings inform everyone of things such as sales, expansion, new products etc.

Cons

Depending on your department, the hours may not be super flexible so if you're a student or have other responsibilities it may or may not be a good place for you to work.

Also, some of the hipster kids they hire goof off even in front of customers and some will give you attitude if you don't look "cool" enough.

Advice to Management

Bring more variety to the prepared foods and baked goods!

    Pros

flexible scheduling, embrace living your life not your job. People love their work there and are easy to get along with (in the Administrative offices)

    Cons

Had to wait full year to get benefits because my job's hours were reduced to below full time. Some changes take a long time because it is a smaller and frugal Cooperatively run business

    Advice to Management

get better benefits for part time staff (above 20 hours a week)

I have been working at Outpost Natural Foods full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Its an environment I feel good about working for. The culture is transparent, problems are addressed, and high performers are recognized and grown in to coop leaders. I am one of them, who began as a clerk, took full advantage of all trainings and programs I could, and have grown in to a manager. Outpost values a work/life balance. They truly care about the well-being of their employees.

    Cons

They pay is not as competitive as other similar companies, but when you keep in mind the wealth of benefits (both tangible and intangible) it can't be beat.
