-No career growth for technical people, one has to keep on working on the same level year after year, may be forever.
-lack of leadership from the partner group
-company feels like a pension scheme for the majority shareholder

I have been working at PA Consulting Group full-time

    Pros

The staff are generally very intelligent and motivated individuals
There is a huge opportunity to learn / travel / network
Fond memories looking back on my time there
Exposure to a large number of customer environments
Taught me a lot about myself, others and what I do and don't enjoy working on
Highly regarded in the industry (certainly in the UK anyway)

    Cons

The salary was very poor relative to what was expected.

Your experiences will only ever be a good as your best assignment. If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself on a bad project and in a bad location then you will have a horrible time and you won't be able to do anything about it.

I found that at a more junior level you had no control over where you worked and what you did.

No opportunity to develop or maintain technical skills and qualifications that I acquired prior to joining.

All training was delivered internally which was interesting but had little "CV value" in the outside world.

    Advice to Management

    Address the above.

    Pros

-PA has some genuinely clever and talented people on the shop floor
-There is the opportunity to work on some very interesting assignments

    Cons

-the work life balance can be terrible (depending on the job). on a recent job i worked huge extra hours and got a very average end of year review
-there is no recognition at all of extra hours worked
-lack of leadership from the partner group
-company feels like a pension scheme for the majority shareholder

    Advice to Management

-sack the executive chairman, hire some external talent and then resign yourselves
