I worked at PACCAR full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

If you want to learn discipline, this is a great company. If you can do well at Paccar, you can be very successful with other companies.

Cons

The culture is very much command and control. Ultra conservative

Advice to Management

Trust your people and let them communicate more openly

    Pros

My coworkers were great and have met many close friends

    Cons

Clueless managers do as they are told and don't think
Promotions aren't given out on merit only on years with the company
    Outdated culture
Compensation is weak compared to like companies
    Health care is expensive
In the IT division most managers were never developers or have Computer background yet they are making the decisions
All the work is going to India
Hiring more H1B1 employees because PACCAR doesn't want to pay competitive wages and these employees are basically hostages
All the talented developers are leaving for better opportunities then PACCAR downplays the individuals contributions
Individual goals are set to match with the directors goals so the directors receive their incentive compensation goals.
When anyone slightly important visits the Information Technology Division the employees must dress up (like this is fooling anyone).
I have more but my fingers are getting tired.

    Advice to Management

No advice because nothing will change. My advice to employees is get experience and leave.

"Growth in position and great overall experience, but it appears men advance faster than women"

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

PACCAR offers employees the opportunity to expand their skill set and work on assignments above their job title. This allowed me to grow in my career and gain experience outside of my normal day-to-day job.

    Cons

The pay is below average and men often advance faster than women.

    Advice to Management

The managers who offer their employees recognition for their achievement help make PACCAR a positive place to work so I hope other managers and VPs begin doing the same.
