Pros

Good brand loyalty, decent benefits, relative stability

Cons

Culturally behind the times, not innovative

Advice to Management

Instead of wearing the conservative mantra like a badge of honor, realize that in business taking risks is part of the game and let that instill down to a cultural level. As it is the place is stifling.

    Pros

The pros: non-management is very nice (yes, there were the few nice managers, but rare). Many of them are very dedicated and kind people with innovative ideas. I made a lot of great connections with fellow colleagues and continue to speak to them even after I left the organization.

    Cons

    There are so many.
    1. The culture is completely fear based. The managers love to have bets on who can make the most employees cry.
    2. The dress is so outdated. Suits for ladies with nylons? And if you're wearing the wrong color, forget it, you're on the "to be fired list."
    3. If you aren't a white, affluent male, forget about being looked at for advancement.
    4. My general experience was that management loves to yell. They love to make fun of others. They prey on the weaknesses of employees instead of developing good, solid employees.

Outsiders will be horrified when they find out all of the rules, including you must take lunch between 12-1 or forget it and you have to take the stairs if you're going less than 2 flights, regardless if you have an injury.

Forget about worklife balance and good pay.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and get rid of those who are just making the environment horrific.

    Pros

Strong middle management. Business decisions are well thought out and design studies are based on fundamental engineering principles.
Managerial promotions are attainable if you put forth the effort.
Great job security as company is very stable.
Company encourages and supports internal transfers locally and globally.

    Cons

The company desires to become more innovative but has difficulty changing the conservative culture. Real advancements in technology rarely make it past the prototype stage.
Little standardization of processes and lack of proper training.
Some policies and processes are outdated.

    Advice to Management

Be mindful that a high frequency of upper management turn over can lead to instability and a loss of core department values. To much cross pollination of department heads can also blur long term goals.
