Pros

Gain experience in construction industry

Cons

I worked in estimating department and left because of the disgustingly hypocritical and disrespectful employees, especially within the HR and estimating departments. PCL might seem like a tough company to join, but trust me they underpay most employees, relative to other general contractors, and they expect you to complete the constant heavy workload within the 8 hour work duration, which is quite unrealistic and illogical. Favoritism and discrimination are at every corner and there is absolutely NO growth within the company. Unless you are a white male, you are very much screwed and always disrespected. PCL says they are an inclusive company and that’s just false advertisement. They are sexist and would always choose males over females, even when females have superior knowledge and experiences. 1) Expect yourself to be disrespected by the narcissistic chief estimator who places his feet on the table while in a meeting with over 10 other people, some younger than him and other as old as his own parents. The estimating team shows little to no respect, and they expect you to remain enthusiastic, maintain your momentum, and take initiatives even after undervaluing their employees to the highest degree. To anyone planning on working here, I advise you to read all the negative comments/reviews because they are the most honest ones, and they will save you your valuable job application time. I kept hearing miserable and immoral stories from past and current employees and they just add to how terrible and unethical the PCL Vancouver office people are. Before joining I didn’t believe all the comments saying PCL stands for “People Come Last,” however now that I have worked there, I couldn’t agree any more with the statement.
