Pros

- Extremely smart, hard working people
- Fairly responsive HR
- Lots of opportunity, as long as you're willing to put in the hours

Cons

- Run by scientists, who don't have a single business bone in their body
- Much of senior management does not practice work/life balance and expects staff to feel and work the same way
- Communication is severely lacking and silos abound
- There is almost an unnatural fear of the Board of Governors

Advice to Management

Communicate with your staff; define positions and set expectations upfront. Give people a chance to succeed - expecting a new staff person to be fully ramped up in less than two months is completely unrealistic and unreasonable.

I have been working at PCORI full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

PCORI is changing how research dollars are allocated, research protocols are defined, and research projects are run, engaging patients to ensure their input into the decision process from allocation, to protocol development, to project management. Furthermore, many very smart and dedicated people work here to make this all happen.

    Cons

As a young organization PCORI has growing pains, and that organization is further stressed by the potential of reauthorization of its funding, now part of the Affordable Care Act which is likely to be modified significantly. PCORI is confident that no change will effect continuing operations of PCORI due to bipartisan support for patient, clinician and researcher engaged efforts to find the best means of caring for parties TS.

    Advice to Management

Continue investing in retreats at the program, division, and organization level to build stronger communications among employees,
