Pros

excellent pay
nice office with plenty of free parking
good commute (rare to find well-paying jobs in Walnut Creek)
initially creative environment
some talented people

Cons

untrustworthy senior management; greedy and questionable ethics
unresponsive HR; you can't trust them to be fair and impartial; nothing is confidential
employees kept in the dark about looking crisis
laid off people just before bonus payout (how convenient)
only the "slippery" staff survive; brown-nosers and frauds
mgt doesn't give credit where credit is due

Advice to Management

don't resurrect the company with same players... you'll just end up with the same result
let it burn to the ground so no one is conned by this awful organization anymore

    Pros

The company offers great benefit and compensation. I feel that the company truly value their employees. There are managers who will encourage their employees to take professional development classes whether it is provided by the company or outside. I did took advantage of this program and was grateful eventually it paid off as I know work in the IT field, which was my goal.

    Cons

Promotions are slow for other employees, others would have to ask for it. Delivering news (bad) news) sometimes takes them a long time to deliver it the news to their employees.

    Advice to Management

The work is hard due to the mortgage economy and the work volume is increasing. The management should talk to their employees on how to ease the stress at work - perhaps take them out to lunch once a week or so...

    Pros

Working for this company for 10+ years I underwent various company-wide changes. PMI was at its best when their offices were located in downtown San Francisco. Although the company was rapidly growing and started to set foot internationally, it maintained a family-like feel for home-office employees. They allowed for flexible schedules and telecommuting, and offered a "compressed" work week, that allowed of an extra day off, twice a month.

    Cons

Benefits seemed to vanish after the company moved to their newly built headquarters in Walnut Creek, CA. Overall work conditions declined in standard and took on a more formal character and stronger separation between management and regular employees. This gap manifested itself already in the architectural planning phase with the design of two separate parking structures for the new office building. There was an in-house parking structure for management, which allowed for significantly faster access to the office. A decision that left many regular employees puzzled.

Then, a few years into the move, the mortgage crisis set in and the company went through and enormous downsizing effort. Obviously that let to further decline of overall work conditions and constant fear of being laid-off. As of November 2011, PMI is in run-off.

    Advice to Management

Make an effort to keep you employees involved, informed and excited about their work.
