Pros

Great work-life balance, which they emphasize. Everyone in the company I met was willing to talk and share their experience with me. PNC is a strong, well respected company.

Cons

Felt like a bit of a cog in the machine but that may be expected coming into such a big company. As an intern, some jobs were not significant but that is also not very surprising.

I worked at PNC Financial Services Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I really can't think of many pros to list. sorry.

    Cons

    business units are so unorganized.
    technology isn't managed efficiently
money is wasted every day because the project teams don't take time to dig in to the details of large projects/buildouts/buyouts/etc. true needs aren't evaluated and money is just thrown out the window

    Advice to Management

Dig in to projects. Find out where all your money is going. Example : business unit was acquired and a consultant was paid to come out an analyze how many MFD print devices we needed. She decided we needed 4 medium-large MFDS (2 color) on each floor. 85% of employees were laid off, which was planned and known about, two weeks later (as their date arrived). This was known, yet the devices were still leased and not used as a result. TOTAL waste of money. Also, old hardware was picked up and disposed of instead of being recycled or sold/donated. Company that was used to do pickup damaged equipment as they "collected" it, didn't even care.
Technology is so spread out that nothing is consistent. Processes are processes on top of processes. 3 out of 6 steps to get a form/request approved are completed unnecessary as they're simply redundant. need some major reworking.

I have been working at PNC Financial Services Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Clean work environment, much better than National City. Because it is a large company employing lots of folks, it is easy to find fellow colleagues with whom you can establish good friendships.

    Cons

PNC believes that they focus on excellent customer service, however, there is a great disconnect between the real branch environment and reporting given to senior management. Management holds branches accountable to unrealistic customer service parameters, and additionally does not give the branch the power to fully manage to these parameters.

Also, large disconnect between large marketing initiatives and sales results seen in branches - marketing has no impact.

Career environment founded in cronyism rather than meritocracy. Promotions not based on merit and results, rather who is known to look good, do as little work as possible, and fluently talk hollow corporate speak.

    Advice to Management

Change Gallup rating parameters so they are realistic. Give branches total true control over P&L. Listen to branch staff. Otherwise, management is basing their corporate decisions on fallacy.
