    Pros

The benefits are great and the people are nice. They have the systems in place and are pretty clear on what their expectations are from their employees. They have a great reputation and nurture the company's image.

    Cons

It seems that they are taking less value in their employees. Being the only home office primarily located in CA they get away with paying people less and expecting more. With the current economic state they know people are not in a position to go elsewhere so easily and if they lose people there are a great number of candidates in the pool to choose from and bring in for less money. There is little opportunity for growth and merit increases are diplomatically given to everyone. In other words, those that work hard are equally rewarded as those that simply give as little as possible. It makes it so obvious we are all just numbers and not people to them.

    Advice to Management

Slow down on the restructuring of field offices. Develop products with a more competitive edge without so many moving parts. Scale back on mass mailings and get back to the basics of relationships with those that provide our revenue - the sales force.

    Pros

Good benefits: health and 401(k). That said, with the exception of the 401A, standard issue for a large company.

    Cons

Terrible supervisors. And all women in annuity services -- customer service. They gossip endlessly and gang up on workers they don't care for. My supe is older and so proud of herself and her quick rise. She talks about it endlessly. Bottom line, she may be paid well but is still just in customer service. It is a joyless atmosphere. They have food days and you have to eat at your desk while you take calls -- DUH! AND, on jeans days, you can only dress down if you wear one of the prison-issued Pacific Life tee-shirts. How generous!!!!

    Advice to Management

Let people have a little fun. Let us try a day in another department. One day off the phones won't kill anyone. It is a boring industry and you guys just make everything even more dismal and bleak!
