Pros outweighed the Cons, until they didn't - Manager Pacific Science Center Employee Review

Pros

People: every goodbye letter anyone wrote talked about how great 90% of the staff there were. Place: a science center is an interesting cool place to work. Benefits: it's not fair to compare a non-profit-museum no less- to the giant tech corporations in Seattle. Benefits and perks (movies, laser shows, cool events) were decent and far superior to what I have now in a mid-sized for-profit firm. Would recommend to a friend with strong disclaimers (see Cons).

Cons

I left because my expertise was not values; ideas were not taken seriously. Very low pay, just one raise in 5 years (not even cola). Genuine interest in advancing equity issues was not matched by genuine efforts. Expecting to run a large education/entertainment venue like a start-up was admirable but not always practical. Priority was placed on guest satisfaction (public ratings) over staff was de-moralizing.

Pros

Good values, work is meaningful

Cons

It's a non profit so pay is a little underwhelming. C suite level makes weird decisions sometimes.
