No opinion of CEO

Pros

The brands you get to work with and the customers you serve

Cons

A retail company that needs to re-focus on their brand and position amongst competitors. Needs to think about resources and not neglect areas that badly need it.

    Pros

    -great third-party clothing brands
    -diverse customer base
    -a theoretically 'laid back' environment
-decent benefits package (IF you were ever allowed to use your vacation time)

    Cons

-HUGE turnover ratio on all levels, especially management (no guesswork on that one)
-corporate is completely out of touch with their audience/employees at the store level
-company standards vary tremendously across different districts/regions on everything, including appropriate dress code standards
-absurd workload and insufficient/unorganized time frames for completing it
-senior management condones the public bashing of peers while fueling rumors under the guise of creating a 'team' environment
-success/promotion was not the result of hard work or skill set, but rather the ability to endear yourself to the senior management by ousting your peers on any/everything. I.e.- if you want to move up, you have to sell your soul

    Advice to Management

I don't think it is too much to ask for the people sitting in the corporate offices to ensure that all levels of employees in the company are treated with mutual respect and dignity. That was not the case in my district, and that is a direct reflection of corporate's failure to effectively act on both its proposed vision and values.

    Pros

Great atmosphere to work at. Great music, very visually appealing environment that beats staring at a brick wall, cubical, or etc. Company sells a variety of brands, products which can appeal from athletes: skateboarders, snowboarders, BMXers; all the way to the casual fan or classy individual.

    Cons

Company places a whole lot of tasks that needs to be completed with little to no payroll to accomplish them. Most managers have to work "off the clock" to get a lot of the tasks completed. Management is trained by a book. When I had a question about something I was told to reference the "Management Handbook" instead of asking a human being or calling another store! Ouch. It seems that the higher ups are not comfortable with the decisions/changes they make. If they make them, a week later we will get a memo saying they changed a situation back to normal or did away with something altogether. ALWAYS something new when you walk in the store. Which is good but when you have a list of x amount of tasks to do, it can get overwhelming VERY FAST.

    Advice to Management

A company that is trying to grow and expand must do so with smart & efficient executions instead of endless task delegations, minimizing payroll, and stronger approach to management & staff development.
