I have been working at Palm Beach Post full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Nice office space. Decent pay.

Cons

Cliques among employees. Layoffs are always in the back of your mind.

Advice to Management

A performance review should not be the first time an employee hears about issues.

    Pros

Generally, management respects work-life balance. And the paper is still capable of occasional good things editorially. Community is a good place to live, too.

    Cons

Hey, all newspaper have had it rough. But the Post lost its way -- in the quality of the writing, in the care it showed for the community -- more than most.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees more. And cool it with the layoffs.

  2. "Great benefits, decent pay, company is getting better and culture is (finally!) becoming progressive."

    Pros

Majority of staff are decent, caring people. There is a big push to turn the culture around, and it's happening. Pay is competitive for the industry, and the benefits are very good.Good access to free online learning.

    Cons

Newspaper industry is in turmoil, and it shows at The Post. There is a lot of uncertainty; once you think the layoffs are done, they start all over again. MUCH of Sales and middle management is incompetent at best; many long-term employees are complacent and entitled and the editorial people (ie: J School ) have still not accepted the reality that advertising pays their salaries.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the progressive good work; use the impending restructuring to get it right this time! Do a better job at not just recognizing talent and initiative; reward it. Put senior leadership and line employees in a room together once a month, see what happens! Middle management is muddling the message!
