Pros

Interesting projects are being developed. Overall, many decent, hard-working people work here.

Cons

Poor management, weak ability to raise funds which make it difficult to develop new projects. I was treated very poorly, perceived badly for making one mistake, and not supported in my efforts to improve systems and processes.

Advice to Management

Take a moment to appreciate your employees' work. They are doing it on behalf of millions of poor people in Western Hemisphere and should be recognized for their contributions.

    Pros

I've worked in a few different NGO's and this one is much better than average. It has great people and a friendly and professional work atmosphere (kind of has a family feel to it). Most of the staff are engaged and there are happy hours and other events every month or so. They listen to ideas from all levels and you can get good exposure to a variety of roles.

    Cons

Like other non-profits, it may not pay as well as a consulting firm, but the benefits are great.

  2. "Great entry-level opportunity but programs lack innovation and impact"

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Pan American Development Foundation full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great opportunity to learn ...lot's of freedom to develop small pilot projects and execute them.

    Cons

Bad leadership. Programs never really scale and lack innovation and impact.

    Advice to Management

Hire program managers with subject matter expertise. Focus on specific programs instead of constantly adjusting institutional goals to chase funding. Focus on scaling and moving projects beyond limited pilot stage.
