I have been working at Parallon part-time (More than a year)

Pros

Work independently. No managers or supervisors at Spring Hill location.

Cons

Must be self-motivated. Hard to move up in company, since all other positions are 40 miles away. No else trained to cover job, for time-off/sick days Work is stacked up when you get back. Only 20 hours a week.

I have been working at Parallon full-time

    Pros

Salary and potential bonus are competitive. However, this organization would rather hire entry level individuals to save money. Formulary monographs are provided for individual P&T Committees (But they only pick the cheapest drug - acquisition cost, in the class,)

    Cons

There is NO Pharmacy Professional culture. The corporation is not interested in the best interests of the patient or the Hospital staff (including Pharmacists, Nurses and others.) The mission of this component of Parallon is simply to SAVE money (not spend.) There is a disconnect between hospital management their goals and Parallon goals for the DOP. Corporate Pharmacy manages EVERYTHING about how you run your Pharmacy. The Director is just an implementor and not a leader. Furthermore, don't expect anyone from corporate to ask your opinion or solicit your expertise even if you have significant knowledge of the subject.

The Pharmacy operations and clinical components are about 17 years behind the times from the rest of the Hospital Pharmacy market.

There is no work life balance; you are expected to work 24 X 7 (if you want to meet their arbitrary deadlines.)

You are judged on made up and arbitrary benchmarks that have little analytic substance behind them. The entire corporation manages to these. You can get terminated if you are not all "GREEN"

    Advice to Management

Stop being a Pharmacy silo. Its not just about acquisition costs. Ask your experienced managers for their input. One size Pharmacy does not fit all.

    Pros

Good salary, excellent benefits, lots of funding from the HCA mothership

    Cons

employees overworked, timelines too aggressive, reactive management

    Advice to Management

slow down, improve company culture, set the standard for the industry instead of being reactive to customer requests
