I have been working at Parker Hannifin full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Great benefits
    - Overall some amazing people to work with. This was one of the main reasons to stay, but be warned there are also some very terrible people working there. They are usually all in mid-level management.
    - Awesome RONA payout bonus.
    - Challenging and diverse workload.

    Cons

    - HR for some of the divisions is literally insane. They are chasing talented employees out the door because of their backward policies and refusal to understand how to value employees. When they don't know true corporate policy they will make it up on the spot, usually to the detriment of the employee.
    - Too much work and not enough people to do it. Productivity is through the roof because the few people who do get work done do so by working 50 to 60 hours a week while some of their counterparts slack off and are ignored by management. Office employees are salary exempt which means no overtime pay.
    - Upper management continues to push for better and better sales each year, even when it comes at the cost of current and future business. They have become so focused on metrics that they have lost sight of the true value of their business.
    - Systems are archaic. Lotus Notes, mismatched sharepoint sites, and a MRP system from the 1980s run on a black and green DOS system. Because of acquisitions, not every division uses the same MRP system and there is no visibility between them.
    - Full of baby boomers who have worked for the company for 20 to 30+ years. This includes most of the upper management. Most are either clueless of how other industries or companies function or just don't care to know. Creates a bit of a bubble where management believes they can treat younger employees the same way they did 20+ years ago and expect them to stick it out for the long-term.
    - Low pay compared to rest of the industry.

    Advice to Management

Wake up and get some new blood into the upper echelons of the company STAT. The Aerospace Group will fail in the long-term without much needed change there. New ERP system is a must, retire the 30+ yearers who don't do anything but take vacation 1/2 the year, and revise your retention policy now before it is too late. Recognized and reward your talented young employees and move them up. No one is going to wait 20 years to make it to mid-level manager with only $100k salary.

I worked at Parker Hannifin full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent, safety conscious company with fairly good pay and benefits.

    Cons

Cronyism is rampant here. Can easily be a career graveyard if you let it. Doesn't value education so it is better to be best friends with a manager than have a college degree. Not very professional in this regard.

    Advice to Management

Managers should be degreed professionals and not of the slap your buddy on the back and by him a beer school of management. Be professional and ethical.
