Pros

Nothing really. It was like every other retail job out there. Seeing attractive girls try on Halloween costumes all day is pretty awesome though

Cons

Extremely slow-paced environment (with the exception of Halloween) and low pay

Advice to Management

Give more hours to employees

    Pay is very resonable and great potential to advance within.

    Alot of the store staffs and management are unprofessional.

    Advice to Management

    Need to get back to the basics and get in touch with what is going on in the stores again.

    I have been working at Party City full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Coworkers. There is something unifying about being mistreated; we banded together against the ridiculousness, stress, and unfairness.

    Cons

    Party City pays as little as possible and expects 10 times more work than they pay for. They pay minimum wage for associates, only allow them 5-25 hours a week, and demand complete dedication and availability. Associates are given little training and not enough time to learn what is needed to properly do their jobs. Associates and managers who try to enforce company policies are punished by corporate if the customer complains. The complaint doesn't need to have merit, or even be true! The customer should always be happy when they leave the store, even if they are rude, demanding and verbally abusive. The turnover is astounding. Low pay, minimal hours, unprofessional managers, rude customers, and almost no opportunities for advancement make for a job that most want to leave as soon as possible.

    If you are "lucky" enough to be promoted to management, expect a miniscule raise, a mandatory schedule, micromanaging from corporate, regional and district managers, and lack of recognition for good work. Do NOT believe upper level management when you are told that you are doing well and are in line to move up to a higher position. If you are treated unfairly and speak up about it, they will seem sympathetic but do absolutely nothing to rectify the situation. Run - don't walk - to another job, any other job. Party City is where professionalism goes to die.

    Advice to Management

    Pull your heads out and recognize and reward good workers. If you pay better, you get better. Don't bury your head in the sand when a problem arises, DO SOMETHING! Listen to your employees, they are the ones actually working in the stores and know how things will work best.
