I have been working at Party City full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Coworkers. There is something unifying about being mistreated; we banded together against the ridiculousness, stress, and unfairness.

Cons

Party City pays as little as possible and expects 10 times more work than they pay for. They pay minimum wage for associates, only allow them 5-25 hours a week, and demand complete dedication and availability. Associates are given little training and not enough time to learn what is needed to properly do their jobs. Associates and managers who try to enforce company policies are punished by corporate if the customer complains. The complaint doesn't need to have merit, or even be true! The customer should always be happy when they leave the store, even if they are rude, demanding and verbally abusive. The turnover is astounding. Low pay, minimal hours, unprofessional managers, rude customers, and almost no opportunities for advancement make for a job that most want to leave as soon as possible.

If you are "lucky" enough to be promoted to management, expect a miniscule raise, a mandatory schedule, micromanaging from corporate, regional and district managers, and lack of recognition for good work. Do NOT believe upper level management when you are told that you are doing well and are in line to move up to a higher position. If you are treated unfairly and speak up about it, they will seem sympathetic but do absolutely nothing to rectify the situation. Run - don't walk - to another job, any other job. Party City is where professionalism goes to die.

Advice to Management

Pull your heads out and recognize and reward good workers. If you pay better, you get better. Don't bury your head in the sand when a problem arises, DO SOMETHING! Listen to your employees, they are the ones actually working in the stores and know how things will work best.

I have been working at Party City part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Really bad pay with a great discount on junk.

    Cons

Worked to the bone for the least amount of pay they can get away with giving you. Horrible yearly raises. Mean clientele and corporate has no idea what they are doing.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your workers. Corporate hire someone with a brain to run your business. For the love of god stop doing meaningless resets and remodels every six months they are nothing but a waist of time and money.

I have been working at Party City part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    It's a job in a horrible economy.

    Cons

You make min. Wage even after being here for five years I only get a five cent raise a year. No health care. Management is a joke. Corporate is an even bigger joke with their consistent policy changes that make no sense. In fact corporate does nothing but make the place run harder. No vacation time for associates. Hours are only sort of flexible meaning if your whole store consists of students then it becomes your problem not the managers. They hire managers who can't manage their way out of a wet paper bag let alone communicate. Constantly understaffed. You are expected to work for minimum pay and do three cashiers worth of work and a mangers job on top of it. And best part is, they don't care because there is another high school kid lined up ready to take the job that you need to barely scrape by with. And let's not forget we can only work up to 25 hours max now because they don't want to give us health insurance.

    Advice to Management

Learn to communicate. By communicate I don't mean gossiping in the back room. Learn to run a store. Learn how to tell corporate you are going to put more people on the schedule whether they like it or not. And corporate hire some one who graduated with a business degree will you.
