Pros

Being around and seeing big projects built around the city and suburbs, good pay, great co workers, being on the front line of cutting edge technology

Cons

Not much to complain about, Patten has been very fair with me. If I have list a con it would be poor Field Service management and Shop management, which creates negative opinions of Patten.

Advice to Management

Patten is a great place to work. That said, talk to your employees and customers. Alot of people have poor opinions about Patten based on poor decisions by middle level managers.

I worked at Patten Cat full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great team, if you have an interest in the industry of diesel power and inovation, this place is a wealth of knowledge. Great work hours, good life work balance.

    Cons

Technicians are completely underrated, supervisors don't have power to supervise as they get office bound so you can't improve field ops if you can't monitor low performers!
No one does safety audits on field techs, should hire corporate consultant, promotion from within should never be in same departments causes power struggles, listen to the opinions of the workers it counts, and pay for the work you want done "if you pay peanuts you get monkeys"

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to those incharge, high turnover is not because people want to leave!!! People leave management.

I worked at Patten Cat full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The product offering is strong. The best in the industry for the most part. The pay is pretty good for most jobs. Benefits aren't going to wow you, but they're acceptable. What division you're in will determine how good your teammates are, but most are really good. There are a few good managers.

    Cons

The company believes that everyone is replaceable. This lack of respect is displayed in the actions taken by upper management. Then middle management passes the blame to employees who just leave.

    Advice to Management

You need to hire a consultant for your company culture, sales, and operations. You have no idea what you're doing and it will cost you as your competitors improve.
