Poor leadership, loss of team morale

    Pros

Good benefits and perks such as one free non fiction book a month

    Cons

Unorganized customer support structure, no updated resources. Leadership was not able to provide clear direction. Over half of my team left before busy season or took short term disability. This put a huge strain the remaining team and caused mass burnout. In the que for 8 hours a day does not allow for any follow up.

    Pros

    * I came back for the people and the mission which are still both world class * Pearson actually has real policies geared towards achieving a work/life balance and doesn't just pay lip service * The engineering culture goes back much further in parts of the business than people realize and the magic is still there

    Cons

    * In the gap of my service with Pearson, I had a handful of opportunities that were on my bucket list and none of them had a vacation policy. It was "take it if you need it" and at certain level in seniority, this is win/win. * 2005 IT called and it wants its ticket-driven-business-process as a stand in for good management and strategic execution back * You should not run a product engineering organization the same way as the corporate email system and we should draw a clear distinction between corporate and product responsibilities.
