    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

As compared to other educational publishers, Pearson is a great place to work. It's a huge corporate environment, but so are all the others. People tend to get a job here and stay here for their entire careers, thus jobs don't open up very often unless they're newly-created.

    Cons

There's definitely a good-ol' boy network and some of the choice upper level jobs are given to insiders without having been posted. And there are some of these good-ol' boys who get and keep these executive-level jobs, regardless of their competency. Opportunity for advancement, once you reach an upper management level, is scarce.

    Advice to Management

Pearson does a good job, overall, considering the behemoth it has become in the past several years. Invest in some updated, effective internal communication hardware and software and we can make this huge publishing machine run faster and better.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Good health benefits and time off packages, If you need some time off, you will get it.
Pearson is a relaxed corporation compared to others. Coworkers are intelligent and good people.

    Cons

Advancement is virtually non-existent. yearly raises are pitiful even though the company is constantly posting record profits. A common complaint you will see on this site and hear among employees are the constant reorgs that take place. I've never seen so many. Getting things to move forward is like watching two glaciers race.

    Advice to Management

Way too much micro management. There are too many layers of management to go through to get anything accomplished. It's way too political now and everyone's out for themselves, foster more teamwork and offer carrots instead of sticks. Realize that we are talented and have skills that are not easily replaced with temporary workers. The environment that's been fostered is deteriorating. There aren't many happy employees left. When the economy turns around, you might see department emptied of some very good employees.
