I have been working at Peet's full-time (More than a year)

Pros

*Free Half Pound of Coffee every week
* Kick ^%* Discount card (free drip coffee or ice tea half off everything else)
*Get serious experience with Inventory Control
* Learn alot about the coffee industry, and it's origins

Cons

So to begin Shift Lead's get the shortest stick of all. Shift leader's are the cash controller 24/7. Shift Leader's also are almost entirely responsible for inventory control ( in short you count the beans, order the beans, put away the beans, sell the beans, get in trouble if there is not enough beans, repeat). Shift Leader's also are responisible for supervising the new employees training. Shift leader's are also responsible for peer coaching. So I know what your begining to wonder, "what exsactly does the manager do?" Well just a little shy of nothing. They are responsible for making the schedule and dishing out the rest of the store responsibilities to the Shift Leader. And Last but not least the pay is crappy, and the annual "raises" that they rant and rave about are between a 1% and 5% raise. Also Peet's just got bought out by an overseas German Billionaire. Yikes.

Advice to Management

Stop letting the Shift Leads run the store, give them better raises to create and incentive to do more. The Shift leads are amazing throughout the company, although Peet's Upper management admits this they do nothing about it and pay the leads crap.

    Pros

Peet's offers a lot of flexibility in regards to scheduling, teaches a team dynamic, and opportunities for leadership training and selling a quality product.

    Cons

Peet's once provided part time benefits such as stock options for their part-time employees that they no longer offer. In addition, the sick policy runs counter to city ordinances.

    Advice to Management

Stick to perfecting the core product (coffee/tea) rather than branching out to novelties (oatmeal, tea coolers, etc). Peet's customers are a very special brand of person who are often dedicated to Peet's ethics and integrity toward their product and craftsmanship. Often a wider array of product distracts from the primary area of expertise and causes a decline in the quality of the product (coffee/tea).
