I worked at Penn National Gaming full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Great friendships were made here, but that is because employees end up feeling like "survivors"

Cons

Prepare for the typical "Boys Club" mentality if you join this team. Favortism will always trump your education and time spent working in the industry. Promotions always go to the fake smile. The Director of HR was the worst at playing favorites and she promoted her son's friends into positions that they were not qualified for. Smaller community and everyone knew how to move up or keep their jobs by staying on her good side.

Advice to Management

Recruit qualified Managers/Directors who have earned college degrees and achieved gaming industry experience instead of promoting lackluster idiots from within. There is a reason why they remained and floated to the top.

I worked at Penn National Gaming full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Tips are good! Co- workers are friendly.

    Cons

Table game operation management is horrible! Can never get a day off. Understaffed, work 2 hours on 20 off if dealer. Supervisor 3 hours on 30 off. Least paid supervisor in the Chicagoland area. If this management team ran a pizzeria it would go out of business!

    Advice to Management

Hire more dealers! Treat one another with respect! You demand it, but you refuse to give it!

I have been working at Penn National Gaming part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Love the industry, company is fun, have a lot of great friends through this job.

    Cons

Management is scarce, you have to deal with a lot of guest problems and interference on your own. Always short staffed on every shift, and thats not even due to call offs. Working long hours to maybe make minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. When they all agree on needing a busser or host for a busy promotional night, find one. Stay close to the outlets so you can interact with the customers as well, especially if a check needs to be changed or gratuity needs to be added. It gets exhausting having to do 4 other peoples jobs because you have lazy supervisors.
