I worked at Penske Truck Leasing full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Learned a ton about the business world and what goes into running a successful branch/business. If you have a good boss, which I did several times throughout my career, you will learn a lot more. I learned that Penske goes above and beyond to try to take care of its customers and I solved countless customer issues over the years. Once you learn how to diffuse a situation there isn't anything that you can't tackle.

    Cons

The busy season (May-August) is very busy and is pretty much non-stop. In management positions you are going to become a customer service guru because as the volume increases so do customer issues. The week you have to carry the on-call phone is rough to say the least (calls all throughout the night) and while you are compensated for the time there isn't enough money to pay me to get 3 hours of sleep 5 nights in a row. Not all managers do a good job communicating or developing their employees. Some poor performers get kept on too long because no one wants to have that tough conversation and/or want to spend the time trying to find a new employee

    Advice to Management

Spend some time in the field actually working at locations instead of sitting in your office. There is only so much that data on a spreadsheet can really tell you about the business. You'll get a much better idea of what really goes on when you assist at a busy counter for a few hours in the morning.
