Pros

Work with wide range of clients. Get to ride newest technology in bicycle industry. Weekly group rides. Learn how to truly appreciate your passion in life and find yourself by doing what you love.

Cons

Low pay. Not the idea position after college. Seasons affect income.

Advice to Management

Group ride vacations to the best trails in the area.

    I worked at Performance Bicycle full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good Discounts, Ok Medical Benefits, It's Kaiser Permanante quality, so you know it's not the greatest. Paid Vacations, Sick pay. Get to fit customers to their bikes, sell lots of great items at affordable prices.

    Cons

    No regard for Fire Safety at their stores. The fill it up with Merchandise and block the fire exits even for customers. The employees in the stores are hourly and are asked to work off the clock, even on their scheduled day off. Not paid for conference calls.
     Do not get rides going outside the shop or involved in the community.

     Management in the main office is unorganized and retaliation is rampant in this company even though it is not allowed in any company. They break this all the time in their stores which threatens the employee and customer/guest.
    Also they sell used shoes to customers at a discount which is against California Law. They break this all the time in their stores, it's a health law.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of District Managers who are not cyclists and or not fit. Get athletic minded healthy people who actually ride or are involved in the community. Get organized when you open a new store. Don't block the fire exits which is against the law in most states. They should overhaul the entire software system so that the employees do not have to fill out forms for the employee who sells their reward program. It should be automatic. Many Department stores have had this since the early 90's. Do it like the rewards program.

    I have been working at Performance Bicycle part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Working with bikes and bike related products is fun. Getting to test ride some nice expensive bikes was nice.

    Cons

    Lack of a formal training, pay is hourly-not commission. Getting to use and know new products never happened. Sense of a team didn't exist. Management was very weak.

    Advice to Management

    Bike shops should be mom and pops, not corporate giants.
