I have been working at Perkins Coie as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Salaries are higher than other contract legal employers. Colleges are generally considerate and focused on the tasks at hand. Associates and partners are some of the smartest people I've worked with.

    Cons

Contract work can be inconsistent and the lead time for projects is short. There is little/no ability to move up and when people do advance it is more luck than skill.

I worked at Perkins Coie full-time

    Pros

It really depends on what you're looking for. If you are looking for challenges and future opportunity, it really isn't there. It seems most come in with the promise of opportunity, but end up leaving the lack thereof. If you are content doing the same job for 13 years until sabbatical and not really moving up on the payscale then it's your place, but if you're ambitious, not really.

    Cons

Management does not "have staff members' back" meaning you are pretty much viewed as replaceable if you are staff - this is a great place for attorneys who have the potential of making partner.

    Advice to Management

You need to reward deserving staff and get rid of the ones are there only taking - up space.
