Disapproves of CEO

Pros

Great pipeline with huge potential. Small company feel with high level of exposures to all aspects of development. Great opportunity for someone looking for leadership role.

Cons

VERY VERY poor leadership in clinical development and finance. Poor judgement in hiring decisions. Sr leadership often ignore team recommendations. Make poor development decisions without analyzing data & outlook. Not a place to go if you are a project manager who like to bounce ideas off because it will be either ignored or trumped for personal agendas.

Advice to Management

Get rid of the CMO

I worked at Pharmacyclics as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The legal transactions team is generally well run. The 3 Attorney Managers are professional, amiable, and make themselves available if you need guidance or questions. It has a busy workload. You get your feet wet relatively quickly. All of the team's Associates are friendly, helpful and collaborative, rather than cut throat and competitive.

    Cons

Although change is the norm in the corporate world, processes here are always changing, people are not always on the same page about what to do and how to get things done, including the business units. Inter-departmental communication is very poor on this front. The group is under resourced. Last and certainly not least, the pay is very poor for both employees and the contract attorneys. That, along with the aforementioned issues have led to high turnover.

    Advice to Management

Faciliate better interdepartmental rollout of process changes. Pay your legal staff competitive wages. This is the SF Bay Area for God's sake, not Chicago (AbbVie HQ).

I have been working at Pharmacyclics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Access to various experience working on a very active drug in advanced B-cell malignancies. Getting the opportunity to work on Imbruvica is fabulous given how active it is across B-cell malignancies.

    Cons

Lack of formal onboarding and training for new employees, also lack of formal processes and structure . The major definite con is that Imbruvica represents the entire pipeline and they are starting to lose talent because they aren't tapping into Abbvie's pipeline

    Advice to Management

More leadership training for executive team
