I have been working at Philips Lighting full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Some of the people are very pelasant and are in a group-think mode. Traditional business is somewhat stable, but losing market share especially LED due to high price points.

Cons

For new hires, you will be challenged if part of the Genlyte aquisition. Lots of anitquated databases retrieving inforamtion, chaotic envorinment. Need to be a "change master". So many restructures with this side of the business, very difficult for a new employee. Legacy employess sceptical of anyone new.

Advice to Management

Get rid of your layers of beurocracy. Listen to ideas of employess who have experience from better managed companies exclusive of Philips. Get the antiquated systems on aS400 like ManMan and Glovia onto SAP and get with the modern world. Stop procrastinating.

    Pros

Long history and experience on LED design and applications. There were strong R&D capabilities in the past. The company has been backed up by the mother company.

    Cons

Too many overheads, poor marketing strategies, Poor relationship with Philips lighting, the other Philips sector, which is dominating in the lighting world.

I worked at Philips Lighting full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's a company where you can learn, develop and have career growth due to the opportunities that exist. The business is well run by leaders that are truly global in nature. They provide enormous amounts of autonomy.

    Cons

It's large but manageable and it can be overwhelming at first to work in such a big firm. Once you figure out how you can make an impact - things become quite a bit easier.

    Advice to Management

Hire back some employees from the 2008 recession. It seems that although many thousands were laid off beginning in 2008 - many newer, lower waged college graduates were offered similar positions just a few short years later.
