I worked at Philips full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Benefits, work/career balance
If you want an H1-B visa go for it, they're a factory. I'd say 80-90% of the technical people are foriegn born, Chineese, Pakistan, Indian. Most with poor English skills. Then you have the Dutch expats.

    Cons

Salary at the very low end, very high cost of living (NYC suburbs), no career path, technically unsophisticated, when they say research they mean short term development. Bad communication across research labs (Eindhoven gets priority, followed by China & India).

    Advice to Management

Might be nice to have non-Dutch management in the US. You have Billions in sales but your profit is in the single millions. They access employees (e.g.: performance/ salary) on a bell shape scale across the company and demand quantifiable metrics. Unfortunately, your manager uses qualitative characteristics (get along with co-workers, source of inspiration, etc.) so s/he can do whatever s/he wants in the end. So if your mager is incompentant (and most are) your sol.
