I have been working at Philips full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Good salaries, international experience, mostly good people

Cons

eurocentric, top heavy, price oriented, lack of marketing savvy and imagination, bureaucratic, fixated on Philips as a brand

Advice to Management

You want to be a speed boat but have an oil-tanker's speed and maneuverability. Innovation is smothered under the bureaucracy, rigid thinking and penny pinching management of the divisions. Whoop-de-doo with your Brand roll out, big deal, you change the shield. And what does "Innovation * you" mean?

    Approves of CEO

I worked at Philips full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The corporate campus location is close to my house so my commute is minutes vs hours when working in Boston at another company.

    Cons

At the Philips corporate office, managers expect/demand employees to work at night and on weekends. There is no real work-life balance at this company. All the layoffs have resulted in way too much work for those left at the company. Such a shame as I thought this was my "forever" job.

I have been working at Philips full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

My peers were good engineers who cared about their work.
Flexible working hours, depending on who your manager is.
On par wage with other companies in the industry.

    Cons

Endless meetings that don't allow for any real work to get done.
You are pegged into an org chart position with little ability to grow.
Designs lacked creativity and innovation was stifled in fear of an FDA review.
Unrealistic project schedules were driven by management with no input from the engineers.

    Advice to Management

There is nothing to fix here. The problems are obvious, but the management with the power to make change will not want to rock the boat.
