    Pros

    Finding a company that offers satisfactory compensation, espouses great work culture, and empowers employees to do work in their area of interest is a challenge for anyone in the job market. Pivotal comes really close to meeting all three areas. I am also fortunate to have a supervisor who is interested in my career trajectory and well being.

    If you want to pair program while working on infrastructure, this is the place. The pair programming means you learn a lot very quickly, on every front from architecture and code quality to shortcut keys in your text editor. I have grown more in my soft-skills (focus, explaining ideas clearly, giving feedback) in my 2 years here than in my time at three prior employers combined.     The salary is not great. The pay bands are narrow per-level, and there was not even a token negotiation on my offer. You will not make as much as you would at Google/Facebook/etc, but only somewhat less than large startups like Dropbox. All offices are open offices, and since pairing means near-constant conversation, they're even louder than other open offices. Pairing all day is exhausting (especially for the first...
