I have been working at Pizza Hut part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Coworkers at the store level (cooks, servers, shift managers, some RGMs) are often fun to work with and friendly
-You get noticed by your area coach if you go by the book and do what they ask
-Free employee meals every shift as long as you work 4 hours

    Cons

-Inspectors pop in the store at random times, often during rush periods, and follow the managers around with a clipboard...they ask you a billion questions and pull you away from your duties on the line or at the counter to show you things that they think you are doing wrong, or to point out areas that are lacking in your store. It's a very intimidating process and makes the managers feel on-edge and nervous when word of an inspector being in town reaches your store.

-Shift managers are only paid $1.75 more than minimum wage to be able to do ALL the positions in the store, including cooking, prep, cashing people out, waiting tables, and even going on deliveries when needed. They are also expected to handle all of the cash and the registers so if an employee makes a mistake on their drawer, the responsibility for the money falls on the manager, even if the manager never touched that register throughout the whole shift.

-Shift managers are hourly employees only. They cannot work more than 29 hours. The only employees than can work more than 29 hours within the stores are the RGMs and assistant managers. But be careful because if you try to get promoted to an assistant manager, they will suddenly tell you that you have to go work at a different store. They will send you all over the map, sometimes several miles from your home, until you get frustrated and quit. If you survive all of these moves between locations, you will get promoted to RGM. If you don't want to be an RGM, too bad, that's apparently what you signed up for when you asked to be promoted in the first place. So at that point you either have to suck it up and run a store yourself (and they always throw you in a bad store starting out) or find a new job.

-If you are a manager you are on call, ALL THE TIME. Not a single day goes by that I don't think I am going to get called in on my day off, whether it's to work at my store or to help out at a different location that is short-staffed.

-Franchise bosses like to come in the store for visits and make all the employees nervous, they stand over you and make you feel like you don't know what you're doing.

-Not enough employees--morale drops when there are constant call-offs, only a few people pick up the slack, and you can't handle rush periods due to being understaffed

-Customers are generally okay but a good percentage of them are downright rude and will do anything to get free food EVERY TIME THEY ORDER. You can't tell a customer no, ever, because upper management will jump down your throat, even if the customer is scamming you out of free food several times per week.

-Managers are expected to cut labor by running the store with very few people during a shift, and sending people home early. So if you get hit with a rush period and all of your employees are busy, and then you have some people stay a little later than their scheduled shift to help clean up, you get yelled at for overusing labor. But if you send people home right on time to keep labor on track, you get yelled at because the store is dirty or certain things didn't get done.

    Advice to Management

The morale in the stores is at an all-time low, with managers stressed out over things that are simply out of their control. With the economy and the ridiculous price increases on our products, customers are seeking other places to buy food. This isn't the fault of the RGMs or any of the employees within the stores, this is the fault of the business executives who are turning a blind eye to the real problems with the company.

Compensate your shift managers more and maybe they will want to work harder to help the stores succeed.

Pay more than minimum wage and actually give raises (5 cents a year doesn't cut it) to the people who work hard for your business. One of the reasons nobody applies to work at Pizza Hut is because they see how badly the employees are paid, and the hours they get, and they decide to go elsewhere.
