Pros

Convenient location for Pittsburgh residents
The opportunity to work with young people
A steady schedule with days off for most major holidays

Cons

Insufficient pay in comparison to other institutions
Lack of leadership
Lack of quality benefits
Inefficient use of university money and property
Few opportunities for advancement
Heavy use of nepotism
Lack of suitable working conditions
Too much emphasis on profit for a non-profit entity

Advice to Management

Unless the powers that be make some major changes, his school is on a collision course with financial and personnel dishwater. They should take a good long, hard look at their use of resources and how they can better manage them.

    Pros

Can interact with very interesting people from all sorts of unique places.
If you in the correct department, you can learn a lot on the job, get a virtually free and effortless degree(s), and enough resume patting to leave.

    Cons

The only way up is out.
    Facilities are falling apart.
Administration openly spend a lot of money within their departments while other "lesser" departments get nothing.
Only the execs are happy. A lot of miserable underlings.

    Advice to Management

Morale is a problem. Compensation is a problem across the board. It's overall not a fun place to work. There are good people, but we can't hire competent ones with the salary.

I worked at Point Park University as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Being a graduate assistant made my time at Point Park so much better. It was an excellent opportunity and I wouldn't trade my experience.

    Cons

Managing a full time graduate class schedule and the job responsibilities of a graduate assistantship is a more-than-full-time job.

    Advice to Management

The process for structuring departments/schools and hiring faculty seems to have caused some problems in the past. Faculty who should have remained in leadership positions were passed over for new hires (who ultimately were themselves replaced). Don't make the same mistakes again.
